Mary’s Song and Ours

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.  Luke 1:46-47

Whenever I read this beautiful piece of Scripture – Mary’s Magnificent – I love to imagine it for what it is: Mary’s song.  I can see her, standing just outside Zechariah and Elizabeth’s house in the hill country of Judah.  Her arms are stretched wide, and these words are pouring out of her.

And I wonder, when I open my mouth on most days, what song pours from me?  What song do my friends and neighbours hear?  Am I caught up in the trouble and disunity of the world, or am I tuned in to what God is doing my life?  AM I able to sing about the Christ I know is in me?

Jesus, be the song my life sings out to the world.
